Denae’s murals always begin with a small-scale mockup.
This allows her to test the layout and finalize the color palette in advance. Colors are mixed, labeled, and prepared ahead of mural day. This particular mockup measures approximately 10 by 10 inches.

Denae carefully cordons off the workspace to contain dust and debris and to protect the floors throughout the project.

Here, Denae is repairing a damaged area on the wall before painting the mural. She removed loose debris, patched and sanded the surface, and finished with a white base coat sealer.

And finally, the mural painting begins!
Notice how Denae keeps her reference mockups close at hand throughout the process. Be sure to check out the video and progress photos as well.

Denae also added a few extra touches throughout the space—like this native owl artwork.
You can watch her sketch it out in the video.

And here it is—the finished piece!
This was a wonderful project and a joy to collaborate on with the staff. The mural brings new life to the space, and we hope both kids and adults will enjoy it for many years to come.
